April 2010 Bulletin: Item 2
ReNLA-supported Conference: ‘Implementing Learner Autonomy in the 21st Century’, Zirve University, Gaziantep, Turkey, 1-3 June 2010
As we reported in the November 2009 Bulletin, this conference is a ReNLA supported event. Therefore, we encourage you to tell your colleagues about the conference and to consider attending. Here is a message to ReNLA members from the conference organizers in which they provide an update on the conference:
I am really excited and elated. For we have nearly two months to go before our Independent Foreign Language Learning conference to be held at Zirve University in Gaziantep, Turkey in June (You can visit our conference web-site for the details at http://ilac2010.zirveuniversitesi.org/). We believe it will contribute to the growth of the field not only in Turkey but in the surrounding region as well. It will be an honour for me and my colleagues to welcome nearly 200 leading scholars from 20 countries (Australia, Canada, Egypt, England, France, Hong Kong, India, Iran, Ireland, Japan, Libya, Malaysia, Mexico, Northern Cyprus, Pakistan, Portugal, Republic of Cyprus, Singapore, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates) to present their papers and workshops. Also, there will be some non-speaker participants from Gambia, Hong Kong, Iran, Nigeria, Singapore, and Turkey. To be an academic and social one, this event will not be an end but a start. After the gains we are going to get from this conference, we are planning to launch some Self-Access Centres throughout the city and, hopefully, in the whole Turkey. They will help the attendants with all the school subjects along with English. Additionally, we are up to start an international project on establishing and running SACs in cooperation with Marina Chávez Sánchez of UNAM, Mexico City, Mexico. We are pleased to inform you all that we are open to participate in international projects with you all.
All the best,
On behalf of
the conference committee
